Channel NewsAsia’s hit program StartUP was looking for a way to enhance finalist sales pitches. Our team took their concept of 360 degree video to the next level by redeveloping it into a fully interactive virtual reality (VR) experience.

Background

Every year, Slush Pitching Competition partners with Channel NewsAsia (CNA) is presenting the 30 best seed-stage companies of Slush Singapore. The competition gives its participants the chance to turn their business ideas into reality, culminating in a grand finale that grants seed funding to the best ideas. The winner of the grand finale is chosen based on a final pitch to convince judges that they are worth investing in. The event is widely broadcasted by CNA.

Innovation

The VOSTOK VR crew suggested a new experience to hold everyone’s rapt attention during what was essentially a motionless video. We captured the final speeches with 360-degree cameras, and blended the high-definition video with animated infographics, pictures, text, characters, and more. Overall, more than 100x VR elements were integrated into 4 experiences.

This was the first time ever a Singapore TV programme used VR for their 2D show.

Result

This year's finale of Start-UP 4th Season garnered a lot of attention for its innovative sneak preview of the 360-degree animation. The uploaded teaser generated over 100,000 views on Facebook in just three days. It was the most viewed 360 video launched by Mediacorp in 2016.

Finalists received a copy of their full length 360 animated video. This is a highly useful tool as the participants will need a cunning way to represent newly conceived business ideas before having a tangible product or service.

VOSTOK VR was thrilled to collaborate with CNA on new VR innovations while supporting StartUPs AEvice Health, Parcel Perfom, Covetella and Simgo through innovative business launching tools.
